Valchiavenna stretches from the upper part of Lake Como to the north; in Chiavenna the valley splits into two branches, one reaches the Swiss border leading to Maloja Pass (m 1815) and the other ends at Spluga Pass (m 2115). Visitors will notice a perfect combination of history, art, nature and tradition. The traces of its noble past can be seen anywhere in the streets, squares, fountains, palaces, doors of the historical centre and surroundings. Typical of Chiavenna are the Crotti: natural cavity useful for the seasoning of the cold cuts and cheeses, and for the ageing of the wine. Madesimo and Campodolcino are summer and winter resorts with modern facilities, modern ski-lift facilities and many entertaining events. |
