| The Como Province lies on the western shore of Lake Como, where the visitor may find a so surprising and rich choice of different environments, landscapes and settlements: the mountains and the lake, the wild Alps valleys and the industrial area of Brianza, the fauna oasis in the north and the ski slopes in the south. Here the wild fauna is rich, various prosperous. Also the water fauna is widely developed and for what the lake surface is concern, the Province of Como holds the supremacy. It is the richest in Italy. Como Province adds to all this an original and fascinating artistic asset: the Lake Como Villas, unique in the world both for their architectural and landscape value and the numerous treasures that they contain; the incredible concentration in this territory of Romanesque churches, that testify a brilliant and flourishing Medium –Age; the many military fortresses of different ages, witch their own asset of anecdotes and legends, that testisfy a turbulent and adventurous past. Three artistic assets that propose this land for an artistic discover absolutely not banal at all, but stimulating, easily accessible and of significant cultural thickness. BELLAGIO Not to blame knoen as the pearl of the lake of Como, Bellagio is, without doubt the larian place most famous. For centuries his particular conformation has charmed writer and artist, both italian and foreigners. Bellagio lies on the extreme point of the promontory that divides the lake in two sides: the Como and the Lecco sides. Thanks to this particular location there is an extraordinary panoramic variety and the sight can space on the whole lake. Bellagio, with its milde climate in winter and moderate in summer with its characteristic historical center, is an ideal place to stay for the one who loves relax and walks. It offer also numerous and diversificate tourist and sporting structures. During the summer season you can practise all the water sports, while in winter on the mountain are operating three ski-lift. Of notable interest are the romanesque churches besides the famous villas with their parks. In this parks, close to the local flora, there are rare and exotic plants in beautiful italian garden or in english style, among the most beautiful: Villa Melzi, Villa Poldi Pezzoli, Villa Giulia e Villa Belmonte. A lots of are the excursions and the trips that you can make starting in Bellagio, on foot, by car and by boat. One of the most beautiful destination is the park of the mountain S. Primo, reachable by car. The gastronomic speciality of this area are lot and very dainty: lake fishes, polenta "tocc" e "oncia", among the sweets, il "Mataloc". TREMEZZO The village, one of the touristic place most known of the central lake, is situated on the western bank of the lake, in front of Bellagio, with sight on the basin of the lake and on the Grigne Mountain. Tha imposing Villas and the great hotels rise in the 18th and 19th centuries , along the shores of this zone of the lake, for a long time make Tremezzo a center of international tourism. MENAGGIO Menaggio, thanks to its panoramic position, with sight on Bellagio, the "Grigne", Corni di Canzo and an always milde climate, is a vacation place famous from over one century, as it is testify by the beautiful Villas; among which Villa Belfaggio, Villa d'Azeglio, Villa Lovone and Villa Vigone. Of the XII and XIII Century make part the wars with Como; It followed the spanish invasion that, for almost two centuries brought poverty, devastation and plague. In the 1945 Menaggio returns to the cronicle with the passage of the "Mussolini" Column, that stopped in the school "Castellino di Castello", where there were the lodging of "Brigate Nere". |
